Tombstone to an officer Jonas Stapulionis in Joniškėlis
This historical monument of local importance was built to an artillery officer who died for Lithuanian independence. The tomb of Jonas Stapulionis (1896–1920) is in Joniškėlis. Mr. Kestutis Stepšys and Ms Danutė Kazlauskaitė from Vilnius restored the monument.
His brother Antanas Stapulionis (1893–1978) was a participant of the fights for Lithuania's independence in the Joniškėlis partisan organization , a battalion commander, a lieutenant-colonel and an eminent Lithuanian public and military figure. Firstly, he was buried in Boston (the USA), later, on the 27th May 1995, Antanas Stapulionis was reburied in Joniškėlis. The tombstone’s author is an architect Vytautas Brėdikis.
