Memorial stone to an officer Antanas Juozapavičius in the village of Nairiai
Antanas Juozapavičius was an officer of Independent Lithuania. This monument was built in his native farmstead, in Nairiai village. It was unveiled in August 2005.
On a memorial plaque of a monumental fieldstone, there are engraved words: “In this farm was born and grew up an officer Antanas Juozapavičius 02/13/1894 - 02/13/1919“. The members of Nairiai local community and the eldership of Vaškai took care to immortalize his memory.
As in his book “The officer Antanas Juozapavičius“ has noted Profesor Jonas Aničas, Antanas Juozapavičius belongs to the Lithuanian nation's history as the first Lithuanian military officer who put his head on the altar of the homeland's freedom. Another remarkable feat nuance – a youth of the warrior: the enemy bullet struck him at the dawn of his 25th birthday morning. All of these made the officer’s AntanasJuozapavičius death even more romantic.
